چکیده
The ultimate goal of the quality post-natal care of premature infants is to provide an extra-uterine environment with high resemblance to intra-uterine life and primed for an undisrupted growth and development. Ideally, neonatal intensive care shall provide premature infants with equal chances in all aspects of development compared to as their counterparts in utero until they reach term age. However, in real life, preterm birth causes major deviations in various aspects of physiology:

Validation of the Early Feeding Skills Assessment Scale for the Evaluation of Oral Feeding in Premature Infants
Background: Feeding difficulties are common and important in premature infants. In order to identify neonatal feeding difficulties, clinicians and nurses require assessment tools to conduct an objective evaluation of infant oral feeding (breast/bottle-feeding). Early identification of infants with feeding difficulty is critical to implement appropriate therapies and op...

Early administration of optimal nutrition to preterm birth survivors lowers the ris...
متن کاملEnteral nutrition of the premature infant
Early nutritional support for preterm infants is critical because such support influences long-term outcome. Minimal enteral feeding should be initiated as soon as possible if an infant is stable and if feeding advancement is recommended as relevant to the clinical course. Maternal milk is the gold standard for enteral feeding, but fortification may be needed to achieve optimal growth in a rapi...
